Who built this striking landmark?

Ninety Carroll Street rose on the Western Prom in 1923 near the extreme northern edge of Bramhall, millionaire J. B. Brown’s sprawling estate and mansion, which was torn down to create the leafy paradise known as Portland’s West End.

“It’s one of the later structures,” says John Hatcher of The Hatcher Group. “The architecture tells us what was happening in the world. First clues to its date of creation: there’s no back staircase, and there isn’t a carriage house—it’s a garage,” built for the horseless carriage.
