Three Presidents in a Boat

 

It was a different world 15 years ago. Or was it?

This sparkly summer, we’d just shot a picture of the late former President George H. W. Bush’s boat Fidelity IV zooming from the Kennebunk River toward Walker’s Point when it struck us.  

Wasn’t there something called the “lobster summit” up here 15 years ago?  

The July 2, 2007, visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin with former President George H. W. Bush and President George W. Bush was covered by the world press.  

Aboard Fidelity III, the three world leaders headed into the blue for a bit of morning catch and release, but Putin was the only one to reel anything in. 

Newscenter Maine reported that President [George W.] Bush said one problem he has with some world leaders is knowing if they’re telling the truth: “I’ve never had to worry about that with Vladimir Putin. Sometimes he says things I don’t want to hear, but I know he’s always tellin’ me, uhhh, the truth.”  

We wonder if he wishes he could take that one back.
