We were talking about selfishness. Our two boys were sleeping in their car seats as we took our usual loop down to Higgins Beach, and she was annoyed because I’d still proceeded with my morning routine after we’d all slept in; normally, I try to get up before she and the kids so that I can write and ride the stationary bike without interruption. “It’s not all about you,” she’d said to me for probably the hundredth time.
