Key West, Florida, and Fort Kent, Maine, are both the end of the road. Both claim Mile Zero on U.S. Route 1. The only way to understand Route 1 is to drive it yourself.
If you’re lucky, you have a shiny Airstream pulled behind you, in our case a 16-foot Airstream Bambi trailer. No need to flip a coin for north to south vs. south to north. Who doesn’t want to end up in Maine in the summer?
