Former Portland Magazine Interns On the Move
Portland Magazine has benefited from the talents of the interns who have worked with us over the years, and many of them have gone on to achieve success in a variety of fields:
Hannah Holmes and Jason Brown were Portland Magazine interns more than 20 years ago. Holmes’ books include The Secret Life of Dust (Wiley, 2001), Suburban Safari: A year on the Lawn (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2007) and A Well Dressed Ape: A Natural History of Myself (Random House, 2008). Jason Brown’s fiction has been published in many periodicals, including the Atlantic, Harper’s, and Portland Magazine. His story collection, Why the Devil Chose New England For His Work, was published by Open City Books in 2007.
Patricia Summers spent four months at PM in 2005 as an editorial intern. Five years later she held an administrative post in the International Affairs Office of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and managing the intern program. Today, she is the press officer at the British Consulate-General in New York.
Kyunhea Kwon was an advertising intern at PM in 2007 before launching her career in advertising and public relations, beginning in Portland at Pierce Promotions. Presently she is in New York, an account supervisor at Saatchi & Saatchi.
Esme Deprez has taken her bachelor’s degree from Boston College and master’s from Columbia University’s School of Journalism–and internship at Portland Magazine in 2006–on to a career in writing and reporting. She is currently a contributing writer to Bloomberg Businessweek.
Brittany Foley interned at PM in 2008; since 2011, she has been at IDEXX Laboratories in Westbrook, presently as a sales connectivity consultant.
Amanda Smith is a web designer at Maine Medical Center; in 2007 she was a design intern at Portland Magazine.
Betsy Caron is a 2011 University of Maine graduate. She spent 4 months as an editorial intern at PM in 2010. Today she is a web producer at MedTech Media in Portland.
